Iain Hrynaszkiewicz (otherwise known as Iain H) joined Faculty of 1000 in 2013 as Outreach Director, where he leads initiatives to engage with and educate users of F1000’s services for life scientists and clinicians. This includes external communications, product development and partnership building to increase usage and grow the F1000 community. Iain is passionate about using the Web to make it easier to share and assess science, and in improving human health with evidence and innovation.

Iain’s academic background is in microbiology, followed by journalism, which, after working in medical information for two years, led him to join the first open access publisher BioMed Central as an Assistant Editor. Between 2006 and 2010 Iain held various editorial positions (In-house Editor, Senior Editor, Managing Editor), responsible for managing peer review and publication of several biomedical journals. In 2010 Iain became Associate Publisher – and later Journal Publisher and in 2012, Publisher – at BioMed Central. As Publisher (Open Science) Iain was responsible for the strategy and development of a portfolio of evidence based-medicine journals and launched new journals and content types focusing on scientific data sharing and publishing, such as the journal GigaScience. Iain was also responsible for the UK’s clinical trial registration database ISRCTN.org, and was involved in new product development - such as Cases Database. Iain is interested in research on peer review, data sharing - particularly in clinical trials - and research assessment and impact. He has published several peer-reviewed papers, including guidelines for data sharing for clinical researchers which were published in the BMJ in 2010.
