2013 Charleston Conference

The objective of the poster presentation is to introduce an ambitious assessment project aimed at gathering essential data to help drive the development of policies and strategies related to Columbia University Libraries E-Book Development Program. Through the use of visual tools including a word cloud and graphical time-line, we discuss the central research questions guiding the study. These include an examination of perpetual access versus subscriptions, the purchase of print versus electronic materials, collaborative collection development, interlibrary loans, and preservation. Finally, we discuss our vision for the future of e-book collection development and management, as well as our leadership approach in regards to e-book policy development.

Our participation in the poster session at the Charleston Conference 2013 would provide a valuable opportunity to engage with librarians, publishers, and vendors in order to solicit feedback during the early stages of the assessment project. Ultimately, our goal is to connect with the professional community and seek opportunities for continued discussion regarding e-book policies and workflows throughout the coming year. We believe that these collaborations may result in best practices that work to standardize e-book policies and workflows within the research community as a whole.
